Introduction

Symptoms of PTSD in Adults

Adults suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder report:
• Persistent frightening thoughts and memories of their experience.
• Feeling emotionally numb, sometimes alienating from others.
• Nightmares of the event.
• Disturbing and intrusive recollections during the day.
• Sleep problems.
• Depression and irritability.
• Difficulty in concentrating.
• Exaggerated startle reactions.
• Increased aggression and/or violent outbursts.
• Avoiding situations that remind them of the traumatic event because they provoke intense distress or possibly a panic attack.
4) Biofeedback, to help a person become more aware of and learn to deal with the body's response to pain. This alternative therapy emphasizes relaxation and stress reduction.
