CHILDREN DELIGHT IN FIRST ANNUAL TEDDY BEAR TEA

GREENSBORO, NC—About 200 children and parents reveled in the village of 430 dressed and staged teddy bears that served as the centerpiece of the first-ever Teddy Bear Tea on Sunday, Feb. 6. The event, which benefited Family Service of the Piedmont, was hosted by The Guild of Family & Children Service of Greater Greensboro Foundation.

The village of teddy bears—representing more than 60 different businesses, nonprofit agencies, civic organizations, schools and churches—celebrated the best of Greensboro.

The idea was to provide an afternoon of family fun while helping to raise awareness of the vital work of Family Service of the Piedmont with local children and families. Kids were treated to storytelling and crafts, as well as juice and cookies. The event was held at and held at the Greensboro Council of Garden Clubs.

“We felt that the Teddy Bear Tea was extremely successful, and we were so touched by the outpouring of community support,” said Kitty Robison, president of the Guild. Guild members Judy Roy and Sharon Novak served as co-chairs of the organizing committee for the Teddy Bear Tea. Rick and Libby Gabriel were the event’s benefactors and were honored at the preview party on the evening of Feb. 5.

At the Teddy Bear Tea, Children and their parents were able to vote for their favorite “Bear Person” in the village. Southeastern Radiology’s display won top honors, with its “Easter Bunny Bear” earning the most votes. Southeastern Radiology staff created all of their bears and display through a contest between departments at the company.

Greensboro Day School’s display took second place, and Fresh Market, Lawndale Veterinary, and Leon’s Beauty School tied for third.
