Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust Awards Family Service of the Piedmont $325,000 Grant
GREENSBORO, NC — Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust has awarded Family Service of the Piedmont a $325,000 grant. The grant will provide operating funds to continue and expand mental health services to low-income individuals in Guilford County. The grant will be paid over three years on a basis of $150,000 in 2004; $100,000 in 2005; and $75,000 in 2006 with future payments subject to available funds.
Family Service of the Piedmont serves a vital niche in the community through its Counseling Fee Assistance Plan, which allows uninsured or underinsured clients to receive its Family Counseling Service at a subsidized rate. The percentage of clients using the Counseling Fee Assistance Plan is expected to climb due to the new State Mental Health Plan.
The State Mental Health Plan shifts mental health services from the public to the private sector, leaving Family Service as the only major provider of mental health services in Guildford County that sees clients regardless of their ability to pay.
Family Service of the Piedmont’s Family Counseling Service provides individual, couples and family counseling for children, adolescents and adults. Last year, 2686 individuals were served through the program. In addition to counseling, Family Service provides victim services, credit and budget counseling, and community-based programs and education to build safe and healthy families in Guilford County.
The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust was created in 1947 by the will of Mrs. William N. Reynolds of Winston-Salem. Three-fourths of the Trust’s grants are designated for the use of health-related programs and services across North Carolina and one-fourth for the poor and needy of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.
