Family Service of the Piedmont is a not for profit agency whose mission is to promote healthy lives and relationships for children, families and individuals, through early intervention, treatment and support in times of crisis or transition.
The agency is seeking a Housing Specialist to provide technical and staff support to ensure that, in addition to affordable housing, clients have the support and services they need.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 1. Be the agency contact for the “Key Program” for properties which the agency performs the role of lead agency. These are units for disabled individuals supported via Tax Credit unit and Mental Health Trust dollars. 2. Actively participate in the local Continuum of Care – to ensure DMH/DD/SAS tenants access the affordable housing and support services they need. 3. Develop and annually update a Strategic Housing Plan that includes an inventory of local, existing housing for DMH/DD/SAS consumers; strategies for filling the gap between existing housing and housing needs; barriers to implementing those strategies; and means for assessing implementation of the Strategic Housing Plan. 4. Represent the agency at the four annual meetings of Housing Specialists that are offered by the DMH/DD/SAS housing Coordinator. 5. Educate consumers, families and service providers on accessing and maintaining affordable housing regarding the NC landlord-Tenant and Fair Housing laws and negotiating reasonable accommodations. 6. Develop a positive working relationship with local public housing authorities and HUD Section 8 administrating agencies and to improve access and increase the supply of these resources. 7. Establish partnerships with other local, affordable housing and MH/DD/SAS advocates 8. Develop and maintain a wait list for consumer referrals to housing resources. 9. Work with other agencies to identify and secure housing and support service funding opportunities from private, city, county, state and federal sources. Qualifications: 1. Ability to work in partnership with other team members as well as work independently. 3. Ability to build and maintain positive and productive professional relationships. 4. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 5. Exceptional organizational skills; multi-tasking abilities and attention to detail. 6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and Power Point). 7. Experience working with the homeless and mentally ill population. 8. Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field required.

The agency is seeking a Disability Application Specialist to process disability applications and work with Homeless Support Team clients through outreach.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 1. Process disability applications using the SOAR process. This will require developing a thorough working knowledge of the Social Security Administration and Disability Determination systems. 2. Develop contacts and develop a network in the health care and community system to obtain the medical records and information to complete the application process. 3. Coordinate client appointments at Social Security, medical offices and Department of Social Services with HST Team.

The agency is seeking a Child Therapist to provide counseling and forensic interview services to child victims of violent and/or intrusive crimes using a Children’s Advocacy Center Model and to provide coordination and referral services to victims referred by law enforcement and the Department of Social Services.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 1. Provides quality, culturally sensitive, respectful treatment services to a diverse population by using individual, family and group modalities. 2. Documents all treatment services by formulating assessment and treatment plans, writing progress reports and transfer/termination summaries, complete Forensic Interview Reports when needed, and completing other documentation as required by agency and ethical standards. Documentation is to be submitted in a timely manner. 3. Provide continuity of services by coordinating cases with local law enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, the Department of Social Service and maintaining positive working relationships with all service providers. 4. Maintains positive relationships with all multi-disciplinary team (MDT) members and CAC staff by contributing to team cohesiveness, by consulting and collaborating with other staff as needed, and by fostering an atmosphere of tolerance of cultural and lifestyle differences. 5. Plan, coordinate, and facilitate children groups as designated by the CAC Coordinator. 6. Educate the community concerning the Children’s Advocacy Center, child sexual abuse, and family violence by providing training or community education programs as needed. 7. Provide court testimony on all cases involving forensic interviews conducted by this employee while employed by Family Service of the Piedmont. 8. Will be available to provide future court testimony if needed after leaving employment by Family Service of the Piedmont. 9. Provide child and family therapy to clients of the FSP Women’s Shelter in Greensboro, N.C. as needed. 10. Present as a Mental Health MDT Representative at team case review meetings. 11. Seeks/maintains licensure through continuing education experiences as required. 12. Assists agency in overall service delivery by performing other administrative duties as delegated or required. Assist victims of violent crime by answering crisis lines, providing crisis intervention services, providing advocacy services with the criminal justice system and civil court system, and making appropriate community referrals. 3. Empower mothers at the shelter in parenting responsibilities by making appropriate referrals, assisting mothers in accessing services for children and providing parent education. 4. Educates the community about family violence, sexual assault and other crimes by training and providing community education programs as needed. 6. Facilitates support groups for children and families. 7. The agency is seeking a Consumer Credit Counselor to provide financial counseling to clients in the areas of budgeting, housing, the wise use of credit and to provide clients with the skills needed in the management of their personal finances. Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 1. Establishes and identifies cause of financial distress and/or clients needs and implements action plans to assist clients in achieving their goals. 2. Develops a budget with clients based on income and expense information provided by applicants: modifies budget following discussion with client: examines options available to client; fosters the development of money management skills; recommends the Debt Management Plan where appropriate and refers clients for other community resources where appropriate. 3. Provides follow-up counseling and ongoing support to Debt Management clients who are experiencing difficulty in making monthly payments to review financial goals, examine hardships, budget and monitor debt repayment; modify terms of the repayment plan if necessary and feasible; develop skills in assessing the presence of other personal and family problems and motivate clients to seek clinical counseling or other assistance for their difficulties where appropriate. 4. Documents service delivery and contracts with clients or creditors and completes routine administrative tasks. (e.g. reports, forms, letters, computer documentation etc.) in accordance with agency expectations and time allotments. 5. Adheres to confidentiality in the performance of all assignments. 6. Collaborates and consults with the Trust Management Team to resolve discrepancies related to client accounts. 7. Maintains a teamwork relationship with counselors and co-workers in the interest of providing the most effective service to clients on the Debt Management Program. 8. Responds to incoming requests for information from prospective clients; schedules appointments and enters application data in computer. 9. Promotes a positive image of the agency by understanding program services and shall promote the agency whenever given an opportunity to do so. Conducts him/herself according to a professional code of ethics. Assures quality service by knowing and enforcing rules, regulations and legal requirements. 10. Provides community presentations in all relevant areas of the consumer credit field. 11. Maintains active professional interest in the consumer credit field; attends selected seminars, conferences, workshops, etc. to increase knowledge and expertise in the primary areas of performance responsibility; share new information with staff and incorporate new approaches into practice with supervisory approval. 12. Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 1. Reception duties • Reception - Greets visitors, handles incoming calls and performs general administrative duties. May also assist other administrative staff with overflow work, including word processing, data entry and Internet research tasks. • Places, receives and routes a high volume of calls through an electronic switchboard or voicemail. Provides information about the various services offered at Family Service to callers and announces visitors. 2. Collection of client fees • Collection of client fees, using finance records, collects fees for returning clients, ensures completion of paperwork, sign-in and security procedures. Maintains receipts and forwards information to the finance department along with copies of any insurance cards, Medicaid cards and appropriate paper work for new clients. 3. Office forms • Maintains master file of up-to-date forms • Maintains a supply of forms for agency use 4. Mail • Sort and distribute incoming and outgoing mail. Operate manual and electronic mailing equipment. • Remind staff to take inter-office mail if traveling to another site • Take mail to the post office in the afternoon • Help with bulk mailings as necessary 5.
