Introduction

The purpose of an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is to provide support for employees when they are facing personal or professional problems that are impacting their work performance, relationships or attitudes. An EAP is also intended to provide support to the organization in retaining valuable employees and maintaining high productivity.

The purpose is achieved through the following objectives:

• To provide strength to families through clinical intervention, advocacy and education.

• To promote wellness in the workforce by providing early intervention and resolution of employee problems before these problems impact the workplace.

• To reduce absenteeism and on-the-job accidents, and improving productivity and morale.

• To prevent or reduce family disruptions such as marital problems, sex abuse, partner abuse, poor financial management, delinquency, drug and alcohol abuse, etc.
