Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) is a group psycho-educational treatment for men who have abused their partners.
Referrals to this program come from criminal and civil court, Department of Social Services and individuals who self-refer.
The program is thiry-two sessions and consists of orientation, individual assessment, weekly group sessions and monthly group follow-up sessions.
Completion of the program takes one year.
Cost is $15.00 per session, total cost of $480.00.
Curriculum is based on the feminist/cognitive-behavioral model, focusing on accountability for misuse of power and responsibility for learning non-violent, non-controlling behavior.
Topics covered include:
developing respect for his partner
exhibiting trust and support
using non-threatening behavior
employing negotiation and fairness
development of an economic partnership
sharing responsibility
responsible parenting
using honesty and accountability in his actions and communication.
