Community Building Activities and Family Resource Center

This presentation was given by a community resident to her neighborhood group in Guilford County in April.

I’d like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak to you tonight about the idea of a Community Building Activities and Family Resource Center.

The purpose of Community building Activities and Family Resource Center is to provide children and families with a way to obtain resources in their community.

What kinds of resources are available? Health care, educational classes, parent education, job training, parent support groups, leadership training, information and resource referrals.

These resources are actually brought into your community at a place that is close to your home. This is particularly helpful to people who may have difficulty getting transportation or babysitters.

The Community building Activities and Family Resource Center concept is to provide services during the times that meet the needs of the families in the community. In some cases, that may mean offering services in the evenings and on Saturday mornings.

The Community building Activities and Family Resource Center concept is to provide resources in response to the community needs. A good way to find out these needs is to ask people in the community what their needs are. That brings me to why I’m here. In order for the Community Building and Family Resource Center to be successful, we need parents, grandparents and adults like you who are interested in their children, their school, and their community and to be a part of a planning decision making group to determine the needs of this community and to lead the way in making changes that will benefit the families that live, work, and play here. The work that you do in changing your community will not only help your children, but it also will help your children’s children. I hope you will give serious thought to what I’ve said. If you are interested in making a difference in your community please complete these surveys.

Again, thank you for the opportunity to speak with you tonight.
