Are you burned out?

Review the following signs of burnout. How many apply to you?

Do you or have you…

1. Resist calling the office or checking voicemail or email, dreading the possible crises waiting for you to handle; you have a sense of dread of "what now?"

2. Celebrate too joyfully when you receive news that your client/customer has cancelled or no showed for an appointment?

3. Frequently daydream or fantasize about being somewhere else?

4. Begin to self-medicate to anesthetize yourself?

5. Developed a distinct preference for passive entertainment to avoid interacting with others (TV)?

6. Find that you don’t have the interest/energy to interact with your family?

7. Find that weekends and vacations do not restore your energy to return to work refreshed and relaxed?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you may be showing signs of burnout. It might be helpful for you to consider how your needs are or are not being met by your current work situation. Some of these factors may be within your control, while others may be unavoidable. For more information about how to protect yourself, click on Burnout Prevention Tips.
